THE NEWS

GEORGE WAS A GUEST SPEAKER @ DEXTER WILLIAMS CAMP

George was honored to be a guest speaker at The Dexter William's Basketball Camp in, Morehead City, NC. Attending the Camp previously, George loves Basketball and just loves Dexter's Camp. He truly enjoyed speaking in font of the Campers. Basketball and Racing... Yes! In fact, Dexter loves racing and has attended many of George's races. Dexter himself chose George to speak for the youth attending the Camp for the 2022 Summer Season. Inspiration from dedication goes along way when coming from one of your peers.

As George's Banner adorns the Gymnasium of Dexter's Camp, it shows mutual respect and bond has been built between the two. Some might ask, who is Dexter... Well, Dexter "Love Boat" Williams traveled professionally with the Harlem Legends, a group of the Harlem Globetrotters, where he was named one of the “World’s Best Basketball handlers”. Stopping by the Carteret County Speedway to see George race, Dexter has been entertaining folks in the pre-race ceremonies at the North Carolina short track.

Charlotte Motor Speedway

Young Lions Legend Car driver George Phillips’ path to racing is lined with legends and hall of famer's.

“Jeff Gordon and John Bickford got me in the quarter midgets,” Phillips said. In his first race, the then 8-year-old George ended up coming from the back. “Once I got into racing, I started loving it and I won my first race there,” George said. “It just felt so amazing and I just love racing now. I got addicted.”

Now, five years later, George is still going full throttle, steering his way around the quarter-mile at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where he now races every Tuesday night in the Cook Out Summer Shootout. “Without Bruton Smith, nobody would be here,” Meredith Phillips, George’s mother said. “I mean, really, he has made dreams come true.”  Speedway MotorSports founder, NASCAR Hall of Famer Bruton Smith and longtime track president Humpy Wheeler both shared a vision of grassroots summer racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway, opening the door for Legends and Bandolero racing.
